Benesch is pleased to announce that Kate Harmon has been elected President-Elect of the Delaware State Bar Association’s (DSBA) Executive Committee. Prior to this appointment, Kate served as a Member-at-Large, Assistant Treasurer, Treasurer, Vice-President New Castle County and most recently as DSBA’s Vice President At-Large.
This is Kate’s seventh year serving on the Committee, and after serving her term as President-Elect in 2022-2023, she will become President of the DSBA in 2023. She previously served as Co-Chair of the DSBA’s Women and the Law section, concluding her two-year term in that position in June 2021. Kate has also served on the planning committee for the DSBA’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Breakfast and Statewide Day of Service, the DSBA Professional Ethics Committee and the DSBA Finance Committee.
Kate is an associate in Benesch’s litigation department where she finds joy in helping her clients efficiently identify and execute on innovative solutions to business disputes and questions. Creative collaboration with her client teams and Benesch team is her favorite part of her practice. Kate focuses her practice on commercial litigation across industries in Delaware’s state and federal courts as well as in courts throughout various other jurisdictions. Kate also has experience in bankruptcy litigation, corporate litigation, corporate governance, entity formation, non-profit representation, insurance coverage disputes, and intellectual property matters.
Kate is passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion and she strives to advance these principles in all areas of her life, both personally and professionally. Kate serves on the Delaware State Bar Association’s Executive Committee and recently completed a two-year term as Co-Chair of the DSBA’s Women and the Law section. Kate enjoys serving as Vice-Chair of Benesch’s Associate Development Committee and on the firm’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee and the firm’s First in Service Committee. She relishes serving as a mentor to many young Delaware attorneys and proudly provides pro bono services as a Child Attorney through the Delaware Office of the Child Advocate.
Kate received her J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law, her Masters in Social Services and Masters in Law and Social Policy from Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research, and her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Delaware. A proud Delawarean born and raised, Kate lives in Wilmington with her husband and two children.
