Benesch is pleased to announce that Ira C. Kaplan has been elected Board Chair of the Board of Directors of the Mt. Sinai Health Foundation.
The Mt. Sinai Health Foundation seeks to assist Greater Cleveland’s organizations and leaders to improve the health and well-being of the Jewish and general communities now and for generations to come. The Mt. Sinai Foundation developed into a leading source of health philanthropy, already distributing more than $155 million in its initial 25 years of grantmaking. Among the initiatives with respect to which the Foundation has played a leadership role in is the Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition and the related Lead Safe Home Fund, which has raised more than $100 Million to make rental homes in Cleveland safe from lead paint. Among the other initiatives that the Mt. Sinai Health Foundation has supported is First Year Cleveland, the region’s public-private partnership to reduce infant mortality.
Ira is the firm’s Executive Chairman, is a former Managing Partner of the firm, and serves as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. He focuses his practice on private equity, mergers, and acquisitions as well as public and private debt and equity financings. He has been involved in planning for growth companies, helping to position them for growth and liquidity. Ira also represents private equity, subordinated debt, venture funds, and portfolio companies of such funds.
Mr. Kaplan also is a Vice-Chair of United Way of Greater Cleveland, sits on the board and executive committee of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland, and is a past board chair of both the Cleveland Leadership Center and Engage Cleveland. Mr. Kaplan also serves as Chair of the Wingspan Care Group and is an executive committee member and past board chair of both Bellefaire JCB and Menorah Park Center for Senior Living.
