Benesch is pleased to announce that John A. Rego has joined the firm from Jones Day as a partner in the Cleveland office. He will serve as Chair of Benesch’s Environmental Litigation Practice Group.
With three decades of experience as an environmental advocate for clients and training as a chemical engineer, John resolves environmental disputes by blending sound scientific positions with practical legal guidance. He has used this pragmatic, fact-driven approach to negotiate and, when necessary, litigate on behalf of companies in the electronics, petroleum, metals, and manufacturing sectors in matters ranging from litigation of natural resource damage claims to settlement of substantial bankruptcy claims to negotiation of federal air emission standards. Because he understands the language of environmental scientists, John is able to advocate for reasonable, risk-based outcomes to environmental challenges.
“We are very excited to have John join the Cleveland office,” said Kevin Margolis, Integration Partner, Executive Committee Member and Chair of the firm’s Environmental Practice Group. “John is one of the top environmental litigators in the region. He has the skills to help support our clients in key areas as we continue to add top talent to our environmental team.”
John received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1986 and his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University in 1982.
