Benesch welcomes Catherine R. Gawron as an associate in the firm’s Benesch Healthcare+ Practice Group in Chicago.
Catherine (Cassie) has experience in advising healthcare payors on complex regulatory issues and licensing matters, including compliance with federal law (including the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the No Surprises Act), and state insurance and healthcare law (including analysis of state HMO and Individual Marketplace benefit, and provider adequacy requirement to assist a health insurer with expanding HMO and Marketplace plans for plan year 2022 and 2023).
Cassie has provided regulatory counsel and due diligence support for corporate mergers and acquisitions, including a $17.3 billion healthcare enterprise merger (including sale of a Medicaid plan), and has experience in insurance regulatory counsel for mergers and acquisitions of insurance companies, including pre and post-closing acquisition notifications, holding company filings, HMO licensing and change of control filing, and regulatory compliance with state insurance agencies. Cassie has also prepared memoranda regarding Medicare and Medicaid regulatory issues on a variety of topics, including compliance with Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement marketing, and a New Jersey Medicare Advantage compliance investigation.
Cassie has also been involved in pro-bono work regarding elder and disability law, including leading two pro-bono representations for adult guardianship cases in Cook County, securing successful guardianship rulings for clients in each case.
Cassie received her B.A. from the University of Washington and her J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School. She is one of over 50 new attorneys to join Benesch in 2021. Since making its debut on the AmLaw 200 list in 2016, Benesch has advanced 32 places and is currently ranked at number 164.
