Representative Experience
- As special counsel to the Ohio Attorney General, and lead private counsel for Ohio University, won a complete defense victory for Ohio University in a case stemming from the death of a student at an off-campus property. Set statewide precedent regarding statutory duties, as well as wrongful death and negligence claims owed by schools and universities.
- Successfully lobbied for the statutory retention of an important client advisory board housed in the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) through the Sunset Review Committee process against the position of ODH who advocated for its dissolution.
- Successfully lobbied for passage of numerous amendments to Ohio’s Horse Racing Act, i.e., tax abatements for capital improvement, simulcasting off-track satellite facilities.
- Represented Republican majority members of the Ohio Apportionment Board in U.S. Supreme Court litigation/appeals (1991-2003) in the approval of their legislative redistricting plans.
- Successfully lobbied for the enactment of state funding for PACE programs (cost effective managed care programs for the elderly).
- Successfully lobbied for the enactment of a telemedicine licensure law.
- Represented the organized construction trades in the defense of a public sector project agreement against constitutional and statutory challenges.
- Represented the organized construction trades in their challenge to legislation that prohibits public sector project labor agreements.
- Represented a nursing home association in a constitutional challenge to state regulation establishing Medicaid reimbursement rates.
