Michael is a business litigator who advocates for and advises clients in complex, high-stakes commercial litigation.
Michael’s practice covers all phases of litigation, from written and oral discovery, discovery disputes, dispositive motion practice, and appeals. He frequently writes briefs on complex, unique matters that require keen, precise analysis and novel approaches. He has authored and substantially contributed to briefs at all levels of the judicial system, including before the Supreme Courts of Ohio and North Carolina, the Sixth Circuit, and the Ninth Circuit. He has presented oral argument at both the trial and appellate level.
Michael works with clients in a wide array of industries. He has worked with clients in the fields of transportation infrastructure, healthcare, bottled water, clear aligners, and clothing.
Michael also maintains an active pro bono practice. Michael is a member of the Sixth Circuit Criminal Justice Act Panel where he represents individuals who cannot afford counsel in federal criminal matters on appeal.
Representative Experience
- Achieved resounding pretrial victory for Ohio University in a case stemming from the death of a student at an off-campus property. The family sued the University for negligence, wrongful death, pain and suffering, and damages for allegedly violating an anti-hazing statute. In granting the University's summary judgment motion to dismiss all claims, the Ohio Court of Claims noted the school's efforts to combat hazing and protect students.

Defeated class certification and prevailed on Daubert arguments dismissing the opinions of class plaintiffs’ damages and consumer survey experts, successfully arguing on behalf of telehealth company that plaintiffs' claims involved too many individualized questions regarding injury and damages, rendering class treatment inappropriate.
