Juan Andrés Mata focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation. He also proactively monitors proposed laws, regulations, and litigation, particularly through his role as litigation contact for the firm’s multidisciplinary AI Commission, to better counsel clients about current and future AI-associated risks.
He is experienced in pre-litigation resolution strategy, managing e-discovery teams, drafting pleadings and successful motions across various litigation stages, and arguing motions in arbitral and judicial forums.
In addition, he serves as part of the litigation arm of the firm’s multidisciplinary AI Commission, which focuses on the firm’s efforts to guide clients in safely and legally deploying AI technologies and tools to enhance operations, drive innovation, and optimize and customize customer experiences across various industries.
Prior to his time at Benesch, he represented companies and individuals in high-stakes financial services litigation, enforcement actions, and complying with government demands for information. He was a Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) Graduate Fellow for the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights, where he focused on voting rights matters. He also served as a law extern to Honorable Chief Judge Nancy J. Rosenstegel of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, and a research assistant for the Gun Violence and Human rights Initiative Litigation Project at the Whitney R. Harris World Law Institute.
